Ex-Situ Technologies

Physical/chemical ex-situ technologies use the physical properties of the contaminants or the contaminated medium to chemically convert, separate, or immobilize the contamination.

Stabilization/ Solidification

Contaminants are physically bound or enclosed within a stabilized mass (solidification), or chemical reactions are induced between the stabilizing agent and contaminants to reduce their mobility (stabilization). Compounds targeted with stabilization/solidification are inorganics, including radionuclides.

Photocatalysis

Heterogeneous photocatalysis is one of the most promising and rapidly growing areas for the purification of water. This powerful technology mineralizes organic contaminants dissolved or dispersed in water or slurries into harmless substances.

Oil/Water Separators

Oil/water separators are used for removing contaminates from soils and leaving uncontaminated matter that is regarded as treated soil. Semi-volatile organic compounds, fuels, and inorganics are the targeted compounds for this ex-situ technology.
