Founded in 1998 With a Clear Mission

Innovative Environmental Technologies, Inc. (IET) was founded in 1998 by Michael Scalzi with a specific purpose: to serve as the most technically capable field execution partner for environmental consulting firms tackling complex in-situ remediation projects. At a time when the market was dominated by general contractors lacking specialized expertise, IET filled a critical gap.

The founding philosophy was straightforward β€” IET would never compete with the consulting firms it served. Instead, it would be the contractor that consultants could rely on to actually put the right chemistry in the ground, operate complex delivery systems, and drill in conditions that standard contractors avoided.

14 U.S. Patents β€” Not Just a Vendor, a Technology Developer

Most environmental drilling contractors own rigs. IET owns patents. That distinction is fundamental to what separates a technology-driven contractor from a commodity service provider.

IET holds 14 U.S. patents covering proprietary methods for closed delivery systems, accelerated dechlorination, ferric iron-activated persulfate oxidation, organic electron donor substrates (including novel algae and seaweed-based donors), controlled-release encapsulation, methane inhibition during reductive dechlorination, and heavy metal stabilization at complex mixed-contamination sites.

Two Exclusive North American Technology Licenses

The first is an exclusive license from Evonik Corporation for ISGS (In-Situ Geochemical Stabilization) β€” a proprietary modified permanganate-based technology specifically designed for NAPL source zone treatment at MGP (manufactured gas plant), creosote, and coal tar sites. If your project involves these notoriously difficult contaminants, no other contractor in North America can offer you this technology.

The second is IET's licensed rights to deploy EZVI (Emulsified Zero-Valent Iron) technology, originally developed by NASA. EZVI uses nanoscale zero-valent iron particles within a biodegradable emulsion to directly contact and destroy DNAPL chlorinated solvents in-situ β€” a tool with remarkable efficacy at source zone sites that previously appeared intractable.

IET has now completed more than 3,000 remediation and drilling projects across 40+ states, Puerto Rico, and Canada. The project history spans chlorinated solvents (TCE, PCE, DCE, vinyl chloride), petroleum hydrocarbons (BTEX, gasoline, diesel, MTBE), PAHs, creosote, heavy metals, and complex mixed-contamination scenarios at dry cleaners, gas stations, manufacturing sites, military installations, MGP sites, and more.

50+ Specialized Drilling Rigs and 6 Regional Offices

Depth of capability requires depth of infrastructure. IET operates a fleet of more than 50 specialized drilling rigs, including CME truck-mounted and track-mounted rigs, Geoprobe direct push units, AMS hollow stem auger systems, Schramm rotary rigs, and specialized barge-mounted platforms for over-water projects.

Six regional offices β€” in Pennsylvania, Ohio, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, and Florida β€” allow rapid mobilization across the eastern United States, with the logistical depth to handle simultaneous multi-site programs without scheduling bottlenecks.

In 2016, IET purchased its permanent headquarters facility in Pipersville, Pennsylvania β€” a nearly 25,000 square foot complex housing warehouse space, executive and administrative offices, research and analytical laboratories, and employee recreational areas.
