With My Hands, My Head, and My Heart

An original IET drilling and remediation anthem — written for the crews who read the earth, clean the water, and leave the land stronger than they found it.

Published July 17, 2026  ·  IET Team

There's a kind of work that doesn't fit on a résumé. It starts before sunrise, it lives in mud and steel and core samples, and it ends with a quiet certainty that somebody, somewhere, is better off because you showed up.

That work found its voice in "With My Hands, My Head, and My Heart," a modern country anthem credited to Michael Scalzi and generated through LyricsintoSong. From the first line — "before the sunrise paints the sky, we're loading rigs while the world sleeps by" — the song speaks the language of the field crews who have powered IET since 1998. It's a tribute to the driller, the helper, the geologist, the mechanic, the project manager, and the engineer. Different jobs. One purpose. One truth.

The Lyrics

"With My Hands, My Head, and My Heart" — read as a poem

Verse 1

Before the sunrise paints the sky,
We're loading rigs while the world sleeps by.
Maps rolled up and the coffee's strong,
Another job where we all belong.
Steel toes sinking in muddy ground,
Listening close to every sound.
Every core tells a story below,
Every sample's something we need to know.

Verse 2 — Geotechnical

Some days we're chasing solid ground,
Finding the strength that's hidden down.
Rock and clay...
Sand and stone...
Helping builders make it home.
Every boring...
Every log...
Every layer tells its tale.
Strong foundations start below,
Long before the first steel rail.
We help tomorrow stand up tall...
Before the first wall ever goes.

Pre-Chorus

Some folks see dirt...
We see history.
Some folks see empty ground...
We see possibility.

Chorus

I work with my hands...
My head...
And my heart.
Every day's another chance
To do my part.
Turning steel through rock and clay,
Making tomorrow from yesterday.
We're not just drilling holes in the ground...
We're helping build this whole town.
When that sunset paints the sky blood red...
My satisfaction comes
From my hands...
My head...
And my heart.

Verse 3 — Environmental

Some days we're chasing yesterday,
Cleaning up what time betrayed.
Reading groundwater...
Tracing stains...
Bringing life back once again.
Every sample...
Every well...
Every answer that we find...
Means another family someday
Leaves the past behind.
Cleaner rivers...
Healthier streams...
Sometimes hope begins
With one small team.

Verse 4 — Why We Do It

Some folks punch a clock
In a downtown high-rise,
Looking at a screen
Under artificial skies.
They count the hours
Till the whistle blows...
Wondering where
Another workday goes.
Me...
I walk away
With dirt on my boots...
Steel in my hands...
And a smile that money can't buy.
'Cause when the day's work's done...
I can point behind me
And say...
"We made a difference today."

Verse 5 — The Crew

The driller's watching every turn.
The helper keeps the rods in line.
The geologist studies every layer,
Making sense of what we find.
Mechanics keep old iron running.
Project managers keep us moving.
Engineers connect the pieces,
Turning questions into proof.
Different jobs...
One purpose.
One team...
One truth.

Pre-Chorus

Some folks see dirt...
We see history.
Some folks see problems...
We see tomorrow.

Chorus

I work with my hands...
My head...
And my heart.
Reading the earth
Like a work of art.
Turning steel through rock and clay,
Making tomorrow from yesterday.
We're not just drilling holes in the ground...
We're bringing clean water back around.
When that sunset paints the sky blood red...
My satisfaction comes
From my hands...
My head...
And my heart.

Verse 6 — The Family

She knows that old diesel
Before it hits the drive,
Another early morning,
Another sunrise.
Coffee on the table,
A kiss before I go,
She knows this kind of life...
It's the only one I know.
The kids just grin
When they see the mud
Tracked across the floor.
They know those worn-out boots
Mean somebody
Needed me once more.
Every late night...
Every missed birthday...
Every mile away from home...
She's been carrying
This dream beside me...
I never walked alone.

Bridge

We leave more than footprints
When we're gone.
We leave the land
Stronger
Than we found it.
Some child will drink
From a well they'll never see.
Some family
Will build a home
On ground we helped understand.
They'll never know our names.
But they'll live better...
Because we were here.

Final Chorus

I work with my hands...
To build it right.
I work with my head...
To read what's out of sight.
I work with my heart...
Because somebody's got to care.
Long after we're gone...
Our work
Will still be there.
It ain't about glory...
It ain't about fame.
It's leaving this world
Better than it came.
When I lay this tired body
Down to rest...
My satisfaction comes
From what we left behind...
With my hands...
My head...
And my heart.

Outro

Tomorrow morning...
Before daylight...
We'll fire up another rig.
Another map.
Another town.
Another challenge.
Another chance.
To leave this world
Better than we found it.
That's who we are.
We build.
We solve.
We restore.
With our hands...
Our heads...
And our hearts.

Final Line (A Cappella)

The earth remembers...
Because we cared.

Before the Sunrise Paints the Sky

The opening verse drops you straight onto a job site at dawn — rigs being loaded, coffee going cold, steel toes sinking into mud. For nearly three decades, that's exactly where IET's crews have lived. Environmental and geotechnical drilling isn't performed from a screen. It's performed with your hands on the controls, your ear tuned to the rig, and your eye reading every inch of core that comes out of the ground. "Every core tells a story below, every sample's something we need to know."

"Some folks see dirt. We see history. Some folks see empty ground. We see possibility."

Strong Foundations Start Below

The geotechnical verse is a love letter to the boring log. "Every boring, every log, every layer tells its tale." Before a single steel rail or first wall goes up, somebody has to understand what's holding it all up — the rock, the clay, the sand and stone hidden down below. IET's geotechnical drilling teams have spent years helping builders make it home, one carefully logged layer at a time.

Bringing Life Back Once Again

Then the song turns environmental — "some days we're chasing yesterday, cleaning up what time betrayed." This is the half of IET's work that most people never see: reading groundwater, tracing stains, installing and sampling wells, and bringing contaminated sites back to life. Every sample and every well is a step toward another family leaving the past behind. "Cleaner rivers, healthier streams — sometimes hope begins with one small team."

A Smile That Money Can't Buy

The "why we do it" verse draws the contrast between the downtown high-rise and the muddy job site — between counting hours and walking away with dirt on your boots and a smile that money can't buy. It ends with the line every field hand knows by heart: "when the day's work's done, I can point behind me and say, 'we made a difference today.'" That's the real paycheck. The contracts close; the satisfaction stays.

Different Jobs, One Purpose

Verse 5 names the crew — the driller watching every turn, the helper keeping the rods in line, the geologist reading every layer, the mechanics keeping old iron running, the project managers keeping things moving, the engineers turning questions into proof. IET has always believed the technology only matters because of the people behind it. The song calls it plainly: different jobs, one purpose, one team, one truth.

Hands

Steel on the controls, boots in the mud — the work gets done.

Head

Reading the earth like a work of art — every layer understood.

Heart

Because somebody's got to care about the land we leave behind.

The Family Carrying the Dream

The song's most personal verse belongs to the family — the partner who knows the sound of the old diesel before it hits the drive, the kids who grin at the mud tracked across the floor, the late nights and missed birthdays and miles away from home. "She's been carrying this dream beside me — I never walked alone." Behind every rig IET sends out is a family holding the line. The crew isn't the only one doing the work.

We Leave the Land Stronger Than We Found It

The bridge is the song's quiet thesis: we leave more than footprints when we're gone. Some child will drink from a well they'll never see. Some family will build a home on ground we helped understand. They'll never know our names, but they'll live better because we were here. That's the promise that runs through every IET project — geotechnical or environmental, drilling or remediation. The work outlasts the worker.

The final chorus says it plainly: "it ain't about glory, it ain't about fame. It's leaving this world better than it came." And the last, a cappella line lands like a closing benediction — "the earth remembers, because we cared."
