Hexavalent Chromium - PRB
Kinsman Road Chromium Treatment
Cleveland, OhioJune-July 2025
Project Overview
IET implemented a comprehensive hexavalent chromium remediation program at 6300 Kinsman Road in Cleveland, OH for Partners Environmental Consulting. The project utilized a two-phase approach: ex-situ soil conditioning and in-situ injectable permeable reactive barrier (PRB) installation.
This innovative treatment combined ferrous sulfide/mackinawite with Zero Valent Iron (ZVI) to reduce hexavalent chromium to the less toxic trivalent form, creating a long-term reactive barrier for groundwater treatment.
Treatment Approach
Soil Mixing Phase
640 tons of impacted soil conditioned with ferrous sulfide/mackinawite and ZVI
Completed June 9-10, 2025
Injectable PRB Installation
ZVI and soluble ferrous sulfide solution injected to create reactive barrier
Completed July 2025
