Extraction well surface completion removal is a specialized decommissioning service that involves removing the surface infrastructure (protective casing, concrete pad, vault, or traffic-rated cover) associated with a groundwater extraction well that is no longer needed. This work is typically performed as part of a remediation system shutdown, site closure, or transition from active treatment to monitored natural attenuation — when the extraction well has served its purpose and the surface infrastructure can be removed to restore the site for reuse.
The removal process involves excavating around the wellhead to expose the surface completion, cutting the well casing below grade, removing the protective steel casing and concrete pad, and properly grouting the remaining well bore to prevent any surface water infiltration or safety hazards.
