Geotechnical Site Investigation
Deep drilling and rock coring for development project subsurface characterization
Kleinfelder
Project Overview
IET provided comprehensive geotechnical drilling services for the Easler Farms development project in Boiling Springs, South Carolina. The investigation required deep borings penetrating both soil and bedrock to characterize subsurface conditions for foundation design and site development planning.
Scope of Work
- Two deep borings to 45 feet for comprehensive subsurface profile
- 72 feet of soil boring with casing through unconsolidated materials
- 18 feet of rock coring starting at 25-foot depth using NQ methods
- Rock core preservation in two core boxes for client analysis
- 90 feet of grout abandonment sealing both boreholes from bottom to surface
- Water supply logistics provided by IET for continuous operations
Technical Methodology
Soil Drilling with Casing
Advanced soil drilling with temporary casing to maintain borehole stability through unconsolidated materials. Rock interface encountered at approximately 25 feet below ground surface.
NQ Rock Core Recovery
Continuous NQ (2.98" diameter) rock core recovered and preserved for geological characterization, providing intact samples for strength testing and geotechnical analysis.
Professional Core Handling
Rock cores were carefully extracted, logged, and boxed in industry-standard core boxes to preserve sample integrity and facilitate laboratory testing and geological interpretation.
Regulatory-Compliant Abandonment
Complete grout sealing of the entire borehole column ensures compliance with South Carolina DHEC requirements and prevents any future cross-contamination or aquifer communication.
