Deep Geotechnical Investigation
Rock coring and soil drilling for comprehensive subsurface characterization
Kleinfelder
Project Overview
IET provided specialized geotechnical drilling services for a deep subsurface investigation in Greenville, South Carolina. The project required combined soil drilling and rock coring capabilities to characterize bedrock conditions for a development or remediation project.
Scope of Work
- 27.8 feet of soil drilling through overburden to bedrock interface
- 27.2 feet of NQ rock coring for bedrock characterization and sample collection
- Core sample preservation in three core boxes for laboratory analysis
- Complete borehole abandonment with 55 feet of grout seal
- On-site water hauling for drilling operations
Technical Capabilities
Mixed-Method Drilling
IET's drilling fleet includes rigs capable of transitioning seamlessly from soil drilling to rock coring, providing efficient single-mobilization deep investigations without equipment changes.
NQ Rock Coring
Our NQ (2.98" diameter) rock coring capabilities provide high-quality intact core samples for geological characterization, structural analysis, and environmental assessment purposes.
Proper Abandonment
All boreholes were properly sealed with grout from bottom to surface in accordance with South Carolina DHEC regulations, ensuring no cross-contamination pathways or regulatory violations.
Logistics Support
IET provided complete on-site water supply for drilling operations, eliminating client coordination requirements and ensuring continuous efficient operations.
