Permanganate ISCO
Dual-Component Treatment Strategy

An environmental consulting firm contracted IET for a comprehensive permanganate oxidation program combining source area treatment with a downgradient permeable reactive barrier (PRB). The project utilized variable-concentration permanganate solutions for maximum subsurface distribution.

Source Area Treatment

High-Strength Injections (6 points)

340 gal 10% NaMnO4 (375 lbs KMnO4 each), 57-62' & 67-72' BGS, 25' radius distribution

Medium-Strength Injections (2 points)

215 gal 10% NaMnO4 (240 lbs KMnO4 each), dual-interval compressed air distribution

Low-Strength Injections (2 + 7 points)

100 gal 10% & 500 gal 2% solutions (110 lbs KMnO4), same depth intervals

Downgradient PRB
7 permanent wells (60-67.5' & 75-82.5' BGS)370 gal each
3 direct-push points (57-62' & 67-72' BGS)275 gal each

PRB utilized 2% NaMnO4 with 250 lbs micronized KMnO4 for enhanced contact time and sustained reactivity
