Dallas Love Field Geotechnical Borings
At a Glance
Site Challenge
An airport project at Dallas Love Field needed geotechnical borings to characterize subsurface soil conditions for design.
Method
Three geotechnical borings advanced to a combined 70 feet, sampled by Texas Cone Penetrometer (TCP) and Standard Penetration Test (SPT) methods.

Texas Cone Penetrometer (TCP)
A drive-point test widely used in Texas geotechnical practice. The cone is advanced under a fixed hammer energy and resistance is recorded in blows per foot, giving a direct measure of soil strength without recovering a sample.
Standard Penetration Test (SPT)
The split-spoon sampler is driven with a 140-pound hammer falling 30 inches. Blow counts support standard soil strength and density correlations, and the recovered sample is available for laboratory testing.
Airport Setting
Work at an active airport is scheduled around the operator's requirements, with the drilling spread and access coordinated with the facility before mobilization.
